1.    Describe The Kandi Store girl?
The Kandi Store girl is a fun, sexy and compassionate woman who wants to remain professional but play on her lovely youthful edge. She is smart, powerful and concerned with not only her career but also her look. She always keeps a lip gloss in her purse.

2.    Who is your everyday beauty inspiration?
I’m a fan of old Hollywood. Before the botox and the plastic surgery, when a woman’s best asset was her smile. I’m a believer that women look best with glossy lips and curvy hips. Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russel and Bridget Bardot of some of my favorite all time beauty inspirations.

3.    We are weary of the Internet.  Where do you go online for trustworthy beauty product news and reviews?
Although I have been known to frequent sites such as CupckaesandCashmere.com, Examiner.com and blog.missbrittanyboo.com, I have found that the best reviews come from you! If I like something I don’t hesitate to try it and give it my own review! I usually like my opinion best, anyways J

4.    Which current economic challenge do you think has the largest impact on the beauty industry?
I think the poor economy general speaking is having an impact on the beauty industry. Loss of jobs means less spending cash and so I have found women want more bang for their buck in their cosmetics. That’s why I tend to choose make up that not only has vitamins and minerals, so my skin stays fresh, but also gives me a little colorful edge so I can stand out a bit.

5.    What was your career path before The Kandi Store?
Believe it or not I was a lingerie designer for Playboy, Inc. It’s funny to see it written down like that because no one ever believed that’s what I did for a living, but hey, someone’s got to do it. The Kandi Store is actually in the process of producing it’s own lingerie line, designed by yours truly. Look for our collection this Christmas!

6.    What city do you consider to be the beauty capital of the universe?
Wow, this is such a tough question! I’ve done a lot of traveling for work and research and I have to say my top cities are Miami, Tokyo and of course, New York. Each of those cities has a style that’s so distinctive and tailored to the women of their city, I feel like you could pick them out anywhere. Everywhere I’ve ever been has offered me some new insight into the world of beauty but I will always be a New York City girl in my heart and I love the style we’ve bred here.

7.    How do you see web 2.0 changing the beauty landscape?
Honestly I LOVE how web 2.0 is altering the world of beauty. The amount of resources at our fingertips is more fruitful and exciting than ever. I think the interaction of consumers, creators, designers and bloggers not only produces better feedback for companies looking to advance their product but the trading of information also informs other potential consumers about the product. The Kandi Store is tapping into this resource as well with The Kandi Girls. Four personalities we’ve created to help our customers choose product, answer questions and write on their blogs. The interaction with The Kandi Girls and other customers heightens the typical online shopping purchase to a true experience.

8.    Lipstick—our mother’s favorite beauty product—has made a comeback.  But we can’t get ours to stay on.  Any tips for long-lasting lip color?
Ah Lipstick! Tricky little thing and yet the most popular make up item! To make it stay on virtually forever, try putting a little liquid foundation onto your lips first and let it dry. Then paint on a layer of lipstick and blot with a tissue. Repeat with another layer and blot. Now the color will stay but your lips may appear “dry looking”. To fix this I simply keep my moisturizing lip gloss on hand all night and regularly apply to keep my lips colorful and shiny. Works every time!

9.    What current beauty trend do you detest most?
Wow that’s a strong word! I’m not sure I detest anything in the world of beauty or fashion. There is so much more I love than hate that it wouldn’t even be worth talking about. Even if I don’t think I would ever wear some of the make up I’ve seen on other women, be it because it’s too crazy or so many colors at once, I must at least tip my hat to the bravery of those women willing to try what’s new. That’s what’s great about beauty trends. They’re only trends and something else will be cool next week for us all to try.

10. Have you yourself ever broken Beauty Law?
I am the QUEEN of breaking beauty laws! I’m a slave to red lip gloss and wear it with every “going out” outfit even when it clashes magnificently. I hate putting mascara on my bottom lashes because I think it makes them look thinner and I may be the only woman in Manhattan over 16 who still wears glimmer green and blue eye shadow regularly. I love color and I love trying what’s new, even if everyone else hates it. I’ve never been the type of girl to adhere to beauty or fashion rules. If no one ever thought to go outside of the box and try a different route we’d never have fashion pioneers and trendsetters. I say break all the rules. Life is short.

11. What’s up next for The Kandi Store?
Well, we are hoping to expand our sexy little boutique in an even sexier direction. We are currently in the process of producing our own custom luxury lingerie line and a bevy of other magnificent little odds and ends for the glamorous and oh so fierce women we all are. Keep a look out for frilly panties, naughty garter belts, silk sheets and perhaps a feather tickler or two. They say variety is the spice of life…

12.  Philanthropy is a core Twelv value.  Are you involved in any philanthropic organizations or projects?
In fact we are! Not only are all of our cosmetics made with natural ingredients to promote a healthier you and a healthier environment but they are also NEVER tested on animals and remain a cruelty free product. We feel so strongly about the values of many women who are fighting to protect animals and the environment that we are working to develop a completely Vegan cosmetics line. Compassion is sexy.

Also, we are working with an extremely wonderful NFP Charity called Bottom Line Charities. This charity is based in NYC and helps underprivileged women and families receive personal care products that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Goods like clean underwear, hygienic care items and feminine products are just some of the things Bottom Line Charities accepts as donation to distribute to the needy women around America.

Every time you make a purchase at The Kandi Store we take a percentage of that purchase and donate it towards the production of a natural cotton panty line which we donate to the charity every year. We’re firm believers that small steps make big differences.
